No, they don't have plastic. Everything is made from "natural" substances that occur, so they have to be quite inventive. Some things for which we use plastic, they would use glass or leather, although they have developed other materials (not oil based) which allowed them to develop tubes for drips and fluid bags. Making pretty much anything in Amnar is based on a craft/artisan basis rather than industrialised manufacture.

I thought that all sounded familiar so I had a dig around in my old grey cells and remembered that he was on Excess Baggage a while back. From what I recall it was (at least) mildly interesting and entertaining (or I almost certainly wouldn't have remembered it). Anyway, here's the link http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00tjvhv

Thanks for another nice review, Joely. Your assessment of Dalrymple ('a man devoted to developing a veneer of misanthropy to disguise the fact that he cares a great deal') is pretty accurate, I think. A lot of the time he is joking, but it's rather dry humour for some tastes.

By the way, he would carry a stethoscope as he was both a medical doctor and a consultant psychiatrist; in the prison he would frequently be the on-call doctor to deal with medical and mental health issues.

Hahaha! I'm a big over-user of parentheses myself.

The 101010 thing was last year - my birthday is 10th of October. And I'm actually 32 - although not for much longer.

I read the "101010" birthday as binary and thought "you don't look that age". I need to get out more.

Now it has occurred to me that it actually might be binary, after all, and not a date, as I belatedly thought, and I have once again demonstrated a) my stunning capacity for over-analysis, b) my total inability to judge how old people are and, finally (you'll be glad to hear), c) my semi-compulsive overuse of parentheses.

This suddenly makes my twitter escapades sound a little less eventful

I can't believe people do some of these things

Actually I can, this is the internet after all

Maybe twitter needs a Code of Conduct, a la Kermode and Mayo's Cinema Code of Conduct?

More gentle suggestion than authoritarian regime though
